BankVic is deeply saddened by the recent passing of one of its founding members and esteemed Police Association life member, Mr John Whelan.
Working for the Auditor-General’s Department and attached to the Police Fraud Squad, John was there when it all began. He attended the foundation meeting of the Police Association Credit Co-operative back in August 1974 and played an important role as the Co-op’s very first auditor – a role he continued to serve until 1979.
Known for his astute financial judgement and commitment to the financial wellbeing of Victorian Police members and their families, John’s legacy has grown into a financial institution that today services the needs of more than 112,000 Victorian police, health, emergency and public service members.
Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with John’s family and the Victorian Police community. His passion and energy will be sorely missed.
